Something Beginning with M
by Stewart Sumner
You wanted me to have an abortion. Fifteen years is a long time. Do you love her? I need some coffee. You can see her tomorrow on her birthday but I want you out by the evening. I know how you feel.
Love me, love me!
She needs to know what happened between us. People call me Cal. And I ask: were you in love?
And you reply, yes, but it was a long time ago.
Daddy! Daddy!
I knew you as Carol. Yes, but is it safe? It's only too late when your heart stops its beating. Cappuccino? I'd tell you I was wrong, that I wanted the baby. It's a pity it ended this way. I'm not the man you think I am. But what about the present? Don't say anything.
Life doesn't give second chances, if you screw up, you screw up.
Please, Daddy, please!
Why don't you leave the past behind, for Sara's sake?
I'm coming! I'm coming!
Christmas is only special if there are children around. But she was there, I saw her. Are you OK? Scotch or gin? Just the two of us again. I spy with my little eye something beginning with M.
