When we asked Mary about this photo, she said, "I'm always on the lookout for interesting shots. I visit Niagara Falls frequently and have seen these before, but they suddenly struck me as eerie and exciting. I think it was the angle. They are located on the balcony outside The Secret Garden Cafe in front of the American Falls and had been placed there to keep small birds from congregating on the balconies and relieving themselves there (shitting!). The small birds, pigeons, sparrows and blackbirds are frightened of the owls and keep their distance. I had to turn the shot around because the falls are in front of (not behind) the owls."
